Wonderfully Spicy, Winter-Warming Mulled Wine Recipe
With the winter weather upon us, mulled drinks are a great addition to the season.
This one is super simple to make and hopefully will be a hit. We made it last night and it was delicious!
It is quite fiery on the spice front so do adjust the amounts to suit your preference!
Let us know if you have a recipe variation of your own below, we’d love to try it!
Ingredients:
- 750ml red wine (we used a Valpolicella)
- 150g castor sugar
- 1/2 cup orange juice
- peel of one lemon
- peel of one orange
- 1 star anise
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 5 cloves
- 1 tsp fresh nutmeg (we didn’t have this so used ground nutmeg)
- pinch of ginger
Instructions:
1. Place all ingredients except the wine into a large saucepan and place on medium heat. Add a small splash of the wine to the pan to ensure the sugar is covered and let it cook for 4-5 minutes until mixture becomes thicker.
2. Add the rest of the wine and turn down the heat (otherwise the alcohol will evaporate). Let cook for 5 minutes.
Serving Suggestion: Serve hot with slices of fresh orange.
You can smell the delicious autumn and winter scents in the air even before making this mulled drinks!
