It’s never been easier to boost your income online.
We should know. Nicola and I (the two behind Family Break Finder) have worked online for over 25 years combined and built a number of web businesses.
In this guide we’ve covered 50+ different ways you can make money online legitimately.
If you’re looking for ways to make money online, this is the guide YOU need!
Let’s get started!
1. Take Online Surveys
If you’ve looked into making money online before, you would have come across surveys. Answering surveys won’t make you rich, but it can be a great way to earn extra cash that can be put towards existing debts or savings.
The survey companies we recommend are free to join and free to use. We suggest signing up to as many as possible.
The frequency that each survey site sends you a survey varies. And so by signing up to many, you can maximise your available surveys and therefore money made!
Surveys can be a great way to earn if you only have a finite amount of time to spare. Some of the survey companies also let you earn money through other means such as product testing.
Some good ones to sign up to include: Swagbucks, Panel Base, MySurvey, Toluna, YouGov, OnePoll, i-Say, InboxPounds, Panel Opinion, Global Test Market, The Opinion Panel, Opinion Outpost, New Vista, Pinecone, SurveyBods, Hiving, Prolific, Survey Junkie.

2. Review Websites & Apps
The better a website is, the more money it makes for its owner.
You can get paid $10 (£8ish) for each website you review and test. Each review will take around 2o minutes.
As a website tester you’ll provide honest feedback via video and audio. Don’t be put off – no technical expertise is required.
UserTesting.com are looking for your reviews – simply sign up and give it a go!
UPDATE: See our guide and top tips on how to get paid for testing websites
3. Sell Your Old Mobile
We do suggest selling privately but if you need cash quickly, there are a number of companies online to help.
You can earn good money and help the environment by recycling your old phone.
Check our page for the best companies to try and also get top tips to earn the most from your mobile.
4. No-risk Matched Betting
Don’t be put off by this – no-risk matched betting is the best and quickest way to make decent money. We were able to make over £500 per month with a few hours effort each week.
Matched betting eliminates the risk of losing money because you are betting both for and against a particular outcome. The money to bet comes from the free bet offers available on betting exchange websites.
It’s risk free, tax free, totally legal and an option for anyone over 18.
Also don’t be put off if this sounds complicated. There are lots of guides and videos to walk you through how you do it all. It will become a lot clearer quickly – and the effort is definitely worth it!
Next Step: Sign up to a free trial with Profit Accumulator and you can earn £45 this weekend! They have loads of training videos to guide you through the process.
5. Paid For Searching The Web
This is one of the easiest ways to earn money online with little effort. The pay is not high but you get rewarded for browsing the web, something you’re doing anyway!
The way it works is that certain websites (like Qmee) pay you to search via their search engine. When you click on the ads displayed you are paid, simple!
Next step: Sign up to Qmee for free and start earning from your own web searches. Couldn’t be easier! Want to find out more? Read our guide to getting paid for searching the web with little effort.
6. Get Cashback When Shopping Online
This is such a simple way to make money! There are cashback websites that will pay you a percentage of the money spent when you shop at certain online retailers.
The percentage varies greatly, anything from 0.5% to 10%. These cashback sites get the money back direct from the retailer and then split those earnings with you!
The amount you will earn depends on how much you spend. If you’re careful you can earn £100s every year.
Next step: We recommend you sign up to these three cashback sites: Top Cashback, Quidco.com and Swagbucks. They are all FREE and cover a vast range of online retailers. Also check out our guide to the cashback sites.
7. Review Music For Cash
Do you love music or clothes? If so, this is a simple way to earn a little cash.
Slicethepie lets you review unsigned bands and artists and in turn you earn money. They have recently launched a feature to review mobiles/accessories and also fashion items.
This is a slow burner as it takes time to build up your reputation (which in turn will earn you more). A dedicated reviewer could be making £30/40 per month.
It’s not big money but if you love your music it’s a fun thing to do!
Next step: Sign up Slicethepie and also check out our guide on reviewing music for cash.
8. Start Your Own Website / Blog
If you are interested in generating passive income (earning cash while you sleep!) then we strongly recommend building a website around a subject you are interested in.
Starting a website with Bluehost takes less than 30 minutes, costs peanuts and is incredibly easy to do if you can use an internet browser!
You then promote it, which can be as simple as plugging it on your social media, and there are 100s of ways to make money from a website.
We practice what we preach – we started a blog writing about family travel deals. Fast forward a year and we were able to give up our day jobs.
We make a good living, work when we want and we can earn money even when we’re not working on the site. How good is that?!
Building a site and an audience takes time but we can honestly say it’s the best decision we’ve ever made.
Next step: Set up a website with our partner Bluehost, it takes less than 30 minutes.
9. Become A ‘Clickworker’
Clickworker is a site where you make money from completing micro tasks. These tasks can include proofreading, data entry, testing apps, web research or completing forms.
It’s simple work, if not the most exciting, and you can do it from your sofa!
And you work independently on your own schedule. You decide when and how much you want to work.
Next step: Sign up for free at Clickworker and see tasks you’d like to earn from.
10. Get Paying Jobs On Fiverr
Fiverr is the world’s largest marketplace for selling small services.
These include traditional services such as translating, writing or video production. Don’t be put off – what you can offer could be absolutely anything.
These could video testimonials, voiceover artists or website testers. They also extend to the most random of things like getting paid to sing happy birthday or playing pranks on people.
Next step: Sign up and take a look around Fiverr
11. The Disney Vault Secret
The ‘Disney Vault’ is the term used by Disney to describe their practice of restricting the availability of certain home releases. This keeps the demand high across generations and are ‘locked’ away for 8-10 years before being released again for a certain amount of time.
Understandably, this marketing approach has angered a lot of people.
If you like your Disney movies this can be an excellent way to make some money. You can buy a Disney classic at a low-ish price, and then sell it on at a much higher price.
It varies greatly but you could be making back up to three times the price you paid for a Disney classic.
Next step: Take a look on Amazon and see what you can find.
12. ‘Get Paid To’ Websites (including to watch TV shows!)
Yes, you can get paid for watching TV shows!
There are websites that will reward you for different online activities – these can also include answering surveys and polls.
Next step: Check out Emotion Miner for TV show rewards. Other sites that cover a number of activities include Swagbucks, InboxPounds and Toluna.
13. Enter Competitions
Although not a reliable way to make money or win prizes, if you approach competitions in the right way, it can be a great earner.
There are a growing number of ‘compers’ that make over £40,000 every year simply by entering competitions.
We do highly recommend using an alias email address – one that is not your main email address.
The companies that run the competitions do so to gain email addresses that they can market to. Do also ensure you opt-out of any offers as you enter the competitions.
Next step: We recommend Di Coke’s excellent blog SuperLucky.
14. Write An Ebook
This may seem like a tall order but we’re not talking about being the next JK Rowling.
Think about your hobbies and professional experience. If you can write about a subject that adds value and is practical, then people will pay money for it.
We should know, we’ve written an ebook helping families save on their travel showing how to save money on flights, train tickets, hotels, holidays and much more.
Don’t forget, you market is huge. For example, the most popular is the Amazon Kindle store, it reaches the whole globe and is available on all devices.
And the profit margins are good, you earn 70% of the sale on Amazon. Combined with the fact it’s the most popular selling website in the world, you could be onto a winner.
And best of all, you write the book once and you can be earning on that same publication for years to come. What’s not to love?!
Next step: For practical information on how to write a non fiction ebook check out this fantastic guide, “How to Write a Nonfiction eBook in 21 Days – That Readers LOVE!“
Or check out our ebook, “Cheap Family Travel Guide: Learn How To Find The Best Deals On Flights, Train Tickets, Hotels, Holidays, Theme Parks & More“
15. Affiliate Marketing
Do you have a good sized social media presence? This can include friends on Facebook, followers on Instagram, Pinterest or Twitter.
Or maybe you even have a website or blog already?
With either of these you can start to earn money straight away! Companies will give you a percentage of any online sales you bring them.
So say you post about a product you like. If your audience click this link and buy something you get a slice of the pie. And the great thing, if they buy anything else, you also earn the commission on this.
And it’s not just products – this can also be services such as energy, internet or anything really.
Next step: All you need to do is to sign up as a publisher with a company called “Affiliate Window“. You then browse all their merchants (retailers).
If you then find something you think your friends (or audience) are interested in, you grab your personal link (so the retailer knows it was you that sent them!) and share that link wherever you can. You can earn up to 10% on anything people buy.
16. Sign Up To OhMyDosh!
OhMyDosh! is fairly new on the scene, launching in 2018 and already has 200,000 members.
As a member of the site you can earn money through lots of different ways from product trials, surveys and competitions. With any trials you do take out, don’t forget to cancel them!
Next step: Sign up now and you’ll get £1 free.
17. Buy And Sell Domain Names
A domain name is simply a website address. This one is YummyMoney.co.uk. Another is FamilyBreakFinder.co.uk, our family travel website.
The co.uk is the extension and there are many others, including .org and .com.
If a domain name has not been already registered, you can buy it up for very little spend. The registration prices start from as little as $0.99 through a company such as GoDaddy.com.
If you can find an available domain name that has commercial value, you can list it for sale and turn a nice profit. Domain auction sites include ones such as Sedo.com.
18. Design And Sell Printables
If you search Etsy for printables you’ll get over two million results. Printables are hugely popular right now.
What are printables? They can be anything useful really, from budgets, chore rotas, colouring sheets or bridal games.
The best thing about selling printables is that it’s passive income – you design once and that’s it. But you profit every time someone buys one!
And don’t be put off by your lack of Photoshop or design skills. There are lots of free programs that enable you to design beautiful printables.
Next step: Browse the printables on Etsy for inspiration and watch the video below for examples of what you can sell.
19. Become A Transcriptionist
Transcriptionists turn audio content into written form.
This can be a great option for those looking for a side hustle but is also an option if you want to freelance full time.
Next step: If this sounds appealing, we recommend you take this free 7 day mini course at Transcribe Anywhere to learn more.
20. Become A Virtual Assistant
Similar to a PA, a virtual assistant performs tasks for businesses that don’t have the time, or wish to outsource this work.
Again, it’s a perfect as a side hustle or you can go full time. I know one VA who is earning over $10,000 per month.
What are the tasks? These can be pretty much anything and can include:
- Looking after an email inbox – sending, replying to emails
- Managing social media accounts
- Online research
- Graphic creation
- Proofreading
- Answering calls
We recommend having a think about your VA skills. Sometimes it’s better to specialise on a particular area – it’s then easier to set yourself apart from the competition. Or you can offer general VA services.
One area of speciality that is getting more popular is becoming a Pinterest Virtual Assistant. Check out this course to find out more. Getting paid to pin!
Next step: Sign up to sites such as Upwork, Fiverr and browse the virtual assistant roles.
21. Use Swagbucks
Swagbucks is a super popular site and for good reason. There are loads of ways to make money with it.
If you search the web with Swagbucks and click on their ads, you are rewarded with SB points. You can then redeem these points for cash and gift cards.
But there are loads of other ways to earn money through Swagbucks, including playing games, watching videos or completing surveys.
Next step: Sign up to Swagbucks and start earning today!
22. Pinterest Affiliate Marketing
On point number 15 above we explained what affiliate marketing is. This is where an online retailer gives you a commission on any products a website visitor buys on traffic you send.
With Pinterest affiliate marketing, you pin images including an ‘affiliate’ link.
An affiliate link is simply a link with something in it so that the retailer knows you sent the traffic.
Anytime someone buys via your link, you earn! Even if you’re sleeping 😉
Next step: We recommend this course on how to make your first Pinterest sale. “The No-BS, No-Fluff Step-By-Step Guide to Making Affiliate Sales on Pinterest“.
23. Inbox Pounds
Inbox Pounds is an online rewards website. It’s a great way to start making a side income on the web.
You earn money by playing games, reading email, completing surveys, shopping online, searching the web and lots more.
Next step: Sign up to InboxPounds and start earning today!
24. Run Facebook Ads
Many local (or otherwise) businesses are always trying to find new customers.
With Facebook being so incredibly popular their ads can be a great way to attract new custom.
By helping businesses run their Facebook ads you will be paid well. It saves them time learning something they haven’t got time to! And it brings them new customers. What’s not to like?!
Next step: Don’t be put off if you this all sounds beyond your ability. There are many affordable Facebook Ads courses on the brilliant Udemy site.
Or check out this course that teaches you how to successfully make money running Facebook ads for local businesses.
25. Managing Social Media Accounts
Do you have experience with social media sites like Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram and Twitter?
If you do and you can write well, you can earn cash managing the social media for businesses.
They might not have the time or in house resource to do it themselves but still need help promoting their business online.
If you’re into Pinterest then check out this course. It will help train you as a Pinterest Virtual Assistant.
Next step: Check out sites like Upwork and search for ‘social media’.
26. 20 Cogs
20 Cogs is another site where you can earn money through different online tasks.
COGS actually stands for Competitions, Offers, Gaming and Surveys. You can also get yourself some very nice freebies.
20 Cogs is a successful site already paying out over £1 million to their users.
You have to complete 20 offers before they pay out. They do also offer a very generous referral scheme.
Next step: Join 20 Cogs now for free and start earning.
27. Design T Shirts
It’s now easier than ever to make money from designing T Shirts. Companies like Merch by Amazon meaning you submit the design and they take care of production and shipping. You then receive a royalty for every T shirt that you sell.
This can be an excellent side hustle as you design the T shirt once but can earn on it for years to come. For some, designing T shirts has turned into a full time business, or even millionaires for some!
The perfect design is a combination of many different factors: the combination of quote or phrase with the design itself, but also the right audience targeting.
You don’t even need to be a great designer, many T shirts that sell well only contain text.
Next step: Have a look at Merch by Amazon. Also check out some of the other sites that allow you to list your designs on. These include Teespring and Redbubble.
28. Become An Online Tutor
Thanks to online tutoring sites you can now go global and work anywhere in the world. All you need is a laptop and Skype.
In fact, it’s never been a better time to sell on your education.
You can expect to earn north of £10 per hour. You also don’t need to be highly qualified to teach certain levels.
For one-to-one tutoring, the best thing to do is list your services on these sites: Mytutor, Superprof and UK Tutors.
If you don’t have specialist knowledge, a simple way to get into teaching online is by teaching English (or your own native language) on a site like iTalki.
Alternatively, instead of one-to-one, you can create online courses on literally anything. It’s fantastic passive income, and you earn every time buys your course.
Two good areas to look at are helping people improve their lives/wellbeing or help them make more money. A very good site for course creation is Udemy. It’s used by millions across the globe.
Next steps: For one-to-one tutoring list your services on Mytutor, Superprof and UK Tutors. For teaching English (or other languages) register on iTalki. Finally, if you’re interested in selling courses, check out Udemy.
29. Sell Stock Photos
Are you a dab hand with a camera?
If you are and enjoy photography then you can upload your photos for free to stock photo websites.
Three well known sites are Shutterstock, Adobe Stock and Getty Images.
Another site, not as well known, but one that pays higher commissions is Picfair.
30. Create An Online Course
Selling courses online is a fantastic way to earn passive income. Every time someone buys your course, you earn.
And your course can be pretty much about absolutely anything. As long as their is an interest there, people will buy.
Have a think about your interests and your professional skills.
Next step: Take a look at Udemy, there are over 100,000 online courses. Get a feel for what’s selling. The best way to approach this is to find something that is popular but without the market already being saturated.
31. Become A YouTuber
No doubt you’ve heard of these millionaire kids on YouTube? Why not get a piece of the action!
You might not hit the same heights but it can still be an excellent passive income earner.
Again, the content can be about just about anything – but of course, it’s important that you have a passion for the subject area. Some ideas can include Disney, beauty, hobbies, playing games or recipes.
Don’t be put off by the technical nature of creating videos. With modern phones it’s entirely possible to record and edit HD quality clips from your smart phone. So the start up costs are zero.
How do you earn money on YouTube? The most popular way is that you receive a percentage of the advertising revenue per 1,000 video views. Other ways include affiliate links (see number 15 above) or sponsored posts.
It can also be a great way to get web traffic from your YouTube channel to a website or blog.
It’s important to remember that it will take time to build your audience. This is not the way to a quick buck.
But like all things, if you put in time building virality and subscriber base the long term earnings can be huge.
Next step: Sign up to the YouTube Partner Program.
32. Dropshipping
Dropshipping is where you sell products but you don’t actually ship them yourself.
This can be a quicker, and sometimes more effective, route to getting going with setting up your own online shop or e-commerce.
Next step: There are many to choose from but a very popular site where you can source your products and then resell at a good profit margin is Ali Express, a Chinese website.
33. Become A Proofreader
Proofreading is when you search text for errors in spelling, word usage, grammar, and punctuation.
It’s highly important and that’s why you can earn good money if it’s for you!
It can be a smaller side hustle, or you can take it further, into a full time job!
And you can get clients from all over the world.
It’s not a way to make a fast buck and it’s not for everyone. It takes hard work and persistence.
Next step: Sign up to this FREE 7 day course if you’re interested in finding out how to make money from your proofreading skills.
34. Social Media Influencer
You may have heard of celebrities earning thousands of pounds for posting on their social media accounts. The most common being Instagram and Twitter.
However, you won’t need millions of followers to start earning money. You can find sponsorship opportunities starting at around £30 for 1,000 followers.
This side hustle is appealing as it’s super quick to do – all you’re doing is posting. The most important thing is to have an engaged audience. Never buy followers!
35. Become A Twitchstreamer
Who would have thought you could earn money from playing games?
For some it’s even turned into a very lucrative profession. Subscribers regularly tune in to watch them play and learn, and for many, enjoy the commentary alongside.
How much money you make is totally dependent on your number of subscribers. There are many different ways to earn money including:
- Affiliate Marketing – where you get a commission for any products you promote that turn into sales
- Pad Subscriptions – a recurring source of income where certain subscribers pay to watch their channel.
- Donations – Twitch streamers can set up a PayPal link or a Patreon page.
Next step: Check out this article on how you can make money on Twitch.
36. Record A Podcast
In the last few years podcasting has grown hugely in popularity with over 500,000 active podcasts worldwide.
If you’re happy to get behind a microphone and talk about a subject you are passionate about, now is a fantastic time to capitalise on the still fairly new medium.
This is not a make money fast option. Similar to growing YouTube subscribers or website visitors, it takes time to build an audience. How do you make money from podcasting?
The most common way is through sponsorship – companies pay you to talk about their products and services.
Many podcasters make money by growing their authority and audience in a field – and then release a website/course/book/other product that they can then promote via the podcast. Clever!
37. Voiceover Work
Have you been complimented on your voice? It’s very possible that you can make money from companies needing voice over work.
Every day there are thousands of pieces of content produced. These can be anything from radio jingles, computer games or TV adverts. Many of these need voice over work.
Next step: Websites such as Fiverr are a great place to start looking for work.
38. Search Engine Evaluator
You can earn good money feeding back to search engines to help them improve their products.
You will have to agree to work a minimum number of hours per week and at an agreed hourly rate. The work is usually on a six month contract and there is a training period and test involved.
Next step: Check out the following two companies for more information and to apply – Appen and Liobridge.
39. Freelance Writing Business
If you have solid writing skills you can develop a well paid work-from-home career.
Emojis and texting are so prevalent it’s actually getting harder to find decent writers. Companies will pay a premium for quality writing.
And with millions of pieces of content being published, there are many opportunities to get decent writing gigs.
As well as writing you’ll need proofread and able to work to deadlines.
You can pitch to local businesses offering to help them with their copy writing. Alternatively, there are many websites that will list freelance writing jobs.
You could begin with a site like Textbroker. The pay is relatively low but it’s a good one to start for inexperienced writers.
Two other sites include People Per Hour and Upwork. The good thing with writing gigs is that as you build your experience you can charge more.
40. Spare5
As the name suggests, Spare5 is a site where you can earn money from small tasks that only take 5 minutes or more.
The tasks are numerous and include tagging images, transcription, captioning photos or judging if sentences are grammatically correct. There’s bound to be something you can do!

We love this peer to peer lending offer from Ratesetter.
Peer to peer (P2P) platforms bring together people wanting to invest with borrowers that are looking for a loan, delivering better value to both.
Until now, people have not been able to lend directly to borrowers in a meaningful way. Instead they have had to put their money into a bank deposit and the bank then lends their money on.

Ratesetter gives you a £100 bonus for £1,000 invested, along with any interest earned on top. Another huge benefit is the rewarding referral scheme. You can earn yourself a £50 bonus for everyone you refer who also invests £1,000 in a year.
Next Step: Do lots of research into how it works as this is something new to most. Watch the video below and check out the Ratesetter website.
45. Earn Money From Online Forums
You can earn cash for helping others out on online forums.
Many companies now look to crowd sourcing support from their customers in order to keep staff costs down.
In order to make this is appealing they need to reward the customers.
A well known example of this is GiffGaff, a mobile phone company. They have no call centre staff and all their support is handled via online forums, powered by their own customers.
Customers are given up to £30 a month for their help. They also have a referral scheme where you earn a £5 bonus for a new customer you introduce.
46. Property Crowdfunding

Next step: Check out Property Partner, a successful property crowdfunding company based in the UK.
47. Flip A Website
You need to have a good deal of knowledge about websites to do this.
